The Sport of Pocket Bike Racing
Uncategorized No Comments »Racing pocket bikes, also known as Mini GP racing or Minimoto racing, is racing that is done with the use of miniature racing motorcycles, called pocket bikes. Pocket bikes are raced around kart tracks. It is a very popular form of racing in Japan and Europe, and is gaining in popularity in many other countries, particularly in the US.
A typical pocket bike is roughly one quarter a regular motorbikes size, and is powered by an internal combustion engine which is about 50 cubic centimetres producing three to fifteen hp, which varies with the particular model. There is no suspension on a pocket bike but they rely instead on the tires absorbing the bumps. They generally weigh about 45 pounds. Models for newcomers will generally output about 3 to 4 h.p., however more expensive models run with much more power. The best pocket bikes for racing have a very favorable power-to-weight ratio. Accelerations and speed are often increased by modifying the basic pocket bike. In spite of their small size, both adults and children can achieve speeds of 60 m.p.h under good conditions.
Pocket bikes are small and easy to transport, and they are low cost which adds to their appeal for both adults and children. The lowest cost pocket bikes made in China start at approximately $350 for a no frills model, while prices can be as high as $5500 for a top racing bike made in Italy. Children from around six or seven can become skilled at the motorcycle basics while adults can feel the excitement of motorbike racing but not the risks involved in the usual full size motorcycle racing.
