There are many internet databases which people can access using the internet if they know how. Many companies and agencies in the vourse of their business need to keep info about customers in remotely accessible databases, thankfully these are generally restricted to secure access the public could never find. But in theory because they exist we worry about what information is held about all of us, and more importantly we rightly worry what it might be used for. It must be said most records are legitimately held for our benefit, for example those held by police and healthcare providers, the fact they can be swapped between agencies quickly could save us and this data needs to be accessible over networks. It is possible some sites reveal all kinds of info about us, they access some government and business records, for example reverse lookup searches. Tough to find in the past, such background information and reverse lookups are now quite easy to find and although useful it could be argued they infringe on peoples security and private data.
