I work out of an office that is located in a building shared by several other companies. I love the convenient location and spacious parking lot that my office provides to me and my clients. Not only that, but my rent is also extremely reasonable. The low cost of rent keeps my business operating expenses low and thus allows me to take home more profits, which I love! The only downside to my office situation is that my landlord does not permit me to place a permanent sign outside the building signifying the location of my company. Luckily, my landlord and I were able to work out an agreement that makes both sides happy.
THERE IS NO PROBLEM THAT CANNOT BE SOLVED
I looked into a lot of different ways to solve my dilemma and decided that installing a full color banner was my best option. My landlord was very supportive of my proposal, as I explained to him that the vinyl banner would make a minimal impact on the exterior of the building and could easily be removed should I ever move my office. The next day I went to my local custom banner maker and ordered a glorious vinyl banner which I hung above my door for all to see.
SOMETIMES SOLUTIONS BRING ON MORE PROBLEMS
At first, the vinyl banner looked great above my office door. {Unfortunately, my satisfaction was soon replaced by disappointment, as a strong windstorm came through town about a week later and ripped the nails holding my vinyl banner clear out of their holes allowing my custom banner to fly away. Luckily I found the banner down the street from my office, but I still had a new set of problems to deal with. The worst of the damage to the actual vinyl banner was that the holes where the nails had pierced the banner sign had ripped from the wind pressure, thus affecting the integrity of my custom banner.
ONCE AGAIN, NO PROBLEM COMES WITHOUT A SOLUTION
I explained to my local custom banner maker the problems that I had had with my vinyl banner. My full color banner maker gave me two great recommendations on how to prevent this problem from ever happening again.
GET YOURSELF MORE THAN JUST A COUPLE OF GROMMETS!
A grommet is a metal or brass eyelet that encases a hole in a custom banner so that the weight of the banner does not cause the vinyl to tear when the custom banner is displayed or hung from an elevated area. The custom banner maker said he could easily install a few more grommets into my custom banner to give it a bit more strength. After all, a custom banner gets stronger with every extra grommet that is installed. The saying “strength in numbers” applies perfectly to this situation.
RECOMMENDATION #2: PULL IT TIGHT!
When you are hanging your custom banner on a wall, you want to make sure that you pull the banner very tightly against the wall so that there is very little, if any, slack. By doing so, you reduce the amount of air that is able to get behind the banner, thus preventing a strong windstorm from pulling the banner off of its perch. When I first hung my custom banner, I made the mistake of quickly and carelessly hanging the banner, and thus, a strong windstorm not only damaged my vinyl banner but also blew it down the street.
SOLUTIONS MAKE ME HAPPY!
There you have them, my two fabulous recommendations! These two simple tips will prevent you from having to waste your time with trial and error. I hope these simple solutions bring you as much joy as they have me!
