really bad B movie, or the videos you all watched together
at the last teenage slumber party?
Another sleepover "must have" are the cosmetics. Do you
remember trying out each others eye shadow, blush and eye
liner? Well now, you or someone in your circle may very
well be involved in the beauty business. You know, the one
who's quietly placing catalogs all around the house
whenever she pops over. This would be her time to shine!
What a wonderful chance to try out the latest colors and
see how they look on yourself and your friends!
Of course, at the perfect sleepover there will have to be
some sample shades for finger and toe nails and it's so
much easier and more fun to paint each other's!
Food is another important part of the sleepover bridal
shower. Since you are actually grown up now, you will
probably want something a little more to your adult taste
than potato chips and pop, while at the same time nobody
wants to slave over a hot oven, or do KP duty. Give
everyone a break and decide on some easy to make ahead
finger foods. If you can afford it, go ahead and call a
caterer. If not, you may want to ask everyone to bring
something. Foods can include rock melon nestled in slivers
of thin proscuitto ham, pate, a variety of cheeses and
crackers, and pita bites with humus. None of these require
any lengthy preparation and the clean up time is minimal.
Allow the evening to evolve naturally. Throwing a
conventional bridal shower means sticking to the shower
protocol that dictates when food will be eaten, when games
will be played, and when presents will be unwrapped. If you
recall your last teenage sleepover, you know that those
occasions moved along at their own pace in a natural flow.
Why not throw out the rules for the sleepover bridal
shower? Allow the conversation to flow naturally and guests
to eat when they want, and drink when they are ready. Allow
the bride to decide when to open her presents in a casual
way in her own time.
